The MTV Europe Music Awards "(EMA)" were established in 1994 by MTV Networks Europe to celebrate the most popular music videos in Europe. Originally beginning as an alternative to the American MTV Video Music Awards, the MTV Europe Music Awards is today a popular celebration of what MTV viewers consider the best in music. The awards are chosen by MTV viewers throughout Europe. The MTV Europe Music Awards always changes its host city.

Those who competed for the crown were placed in real-life Miss South Africa scenarios that included a series of challenges. These were based on the four pillars of Miss South Africa – duty, championship, empowerment, and beauty. All the finalists moved into Miss SA HQ from where they were given tasks that tested their ability to showcase their interpretation of these four pillars. Their entrepreneurial and business skills were put to the test; they were asked to find innovative ways to encourage tourism, to show support for female-owned businesses, to raise money for charity, or showcase aspects of heritage. A challenge winner was selected each week by the judging panel.

A six-part documentary series on Global Citizen’s efforts to combat global challenges connected to extreme poverty. Each episode delves into a different issue connected to the root causes of poverty, following a specific Global Citizen campaign and the organizers, amplifiers, grassroots activists and people whose lives are being changed.
