The Battle of Moscow is a 1985 Soviet multi-part war narrative, presenting a dramatized account of the 1941 Battle of Moscow and the events preceding it. The battle was the first major defeat of German Wehrmacht in the Second World War.

Kraskov and Vera have long loved each other. Young geologist Sergei Nesterov, having returned from the army, intends to continue his work, interrupted by the war, on exploring industrial deposits of Ural diamonds. His enthusiasm surprises his boss, puts his fiancée Varvara in an awkward position, and gives other geologists a perfect excuse to mock him. But he is warmly supported by the district committee secretary Salomatov. Sergei steadfastly pursues his goal and, in the end, finds the richest diamond deposits.

In the north of the Urals, the construction of a chemical plant has begun. Construction manager Pyotr Musatov appoints Anton Kitaev, the husband of his sister, a direct and honest man, a former front-line soldier, as a deputy. Anton soon realizes that Peter is a typical careerist, pursuing only selfish goals. Kitaev sharply criticizes the leadership.
