Karl and Paula work as specialist divers in Vienna, while their former friend Fred runs a diving school in Croatia. While surveying Vienna's underground, Karl and Paula come across a system of catacombs in which they discover valuable burial objects and a mummified corpse with numerous tattoos. When Karl has an accident during his explorations, Fred is asked for help by Paula. Neither of them suspect what they will soon be involved in.

Film tells the story of how Switzerland came into being - albeit in a slightly different way to the historical circumstances we have known up to now: William Tell proves himself a national hero against his will in the midst of the comic chaos of court intrigues, mishaps and misguided love of country. Habsburg occupiers and Swabian tourists stand in the way of the Confederates' fight for independence, but a parodic all-round attack ensures that all patriots learn their history lesson - and in the process are relegated to their respective national borders.

When she travels there to find out more about her past, both the old lord of the castle and his son Andreas and his fiancée Vera are delighted by her interest.

Willibald Adrian Metzger restores old furniture, the beauty of which he admires with a good glass of red wine. The amiable loner visits his customers by bicycle because he does not have a driver's license.
