Two Lviv batiars are taking care of their deceased neighbor's granddaughter.

When she refuses, he defiantly applies to a shoemaker for a job as a terminator. The distraught countess agrees to give her son the money he needs, but Józio is already head over heels in love with his boss's daughter and has no intention of giving up his new job.
