The movie takes place in the first post-war winter in the Ussuri taiga, one of the protected areas of the Far East, where there are still tigers. Young biologist Vasily Belov attracts local residents to his side and defeats poachers.

Based on a famous play by Ivan Turgenev. The sudden arrival of a guest, Count Lubin, stirred the quiet, measured life of Stupendievs, revived hopes for change. Childhood and youth of Darya Ivanovna, 28-year-old wife Stupendyeva, passed in the estate of the Count's mother, in Spassky. She remembers him as a brilliant officer, and keeps her youth's feeling about him.

1918. After the death of the mother, the father decides to take the children to Moscow to see a distant relative. On the way, the guys experience a raid by a White Guard gang on a train, the death of their father, and meet the homeless child Yashka, who brings a plan to Lenin - how to destroy all the bourgeoisie and all the counter-propaganda in one day. The boys become involved in revolutionary events, and ahead is Moscow, a chance meeting and conversation with Lenin and Dzerzhinsky, the fight against counter-revolution...

After Polina, a mother of six, loses her husband, who went to jail for stealing charcoal and was killed when he tried to escape, she stays behind without any support. To be able to survive, Polina and her family start a folk group. But soon she understands that her children deserve a better fate, and she takes the desperate decision to steal a plane and go abroad... Fifteen years later, Polina is released from prison and finds out that fate has scattered her children all over the country: one is in the army, another is a miner in the Donbass, and the oldest, Lyonchik, who used to be in a mental institution, now pretends to be insane. Polina gathers all of her sons to free their older brother from the psychiatric hospital...

Katerina Izmailova, a beautiful and uneducated merchant's wife, feels lonely and bored somewhere in the Russian provinces while her older husband is often away. Years go by in her childless marriage, without an outlet for her youthful energy, resulting in constant idleness and frustration. Along comes Sergei, an unscrupulous young worker who is happy to improve his lot by seducing Katerina as he has done with others before. Katerina falls for Sergei, and this love quickly becomes her only reason for living, turning to destructive passion and ultimately to tragedy for many.

The story is about a brave boy who never takes off his hat.
