Inspector Sergil is a detective comedy. Sergil, inspector of the P.J., investigates three crimes, helped by two pretty women, Bijou and Nadège.

Witty narration follows the history of Versailles Palace; founded by Louis XIII, enlarged by autocratic Louis XIV, whose personal affairs and amours, and those of his two successors, are pursued in more detail to the start of the Revolution, after which the story is brought rapidly up to date.

The manager of a firm has a very unusual idea : asking his employees to pose as gangsters and to hold up a bank before returning the stolen money and pocketing the reward. But things do not go according to plan and the phony thieves get stolen in their turn. They have no other choice than turning into amateur detectives to be able to pay back the stolen dough.

Summoned by his mother to plead, a very young lawyer has a trio of pathetic criminals acquitted. For the beautiful eyes of the young girl, Master of La Bastide attaches the three rogues to his service. Disasters, confusion, clumsiness follow one another until the planned wedding.

Three young students, who met on the train, arrive in Paris and decide to find accommodation together.

To conceal his nighttime infidelity from his wife Gisele, Pierre calls in a particularly shady private detective to concoct an alibi. He is introduced to a certain Robert Crémieux, who will pass himself off to Gisèle as a childhood friend with whom he spent the night until the early hours of the morning. The so-called childhood friend turns out to be a delinquent accused of burglary and rape on the very night he was supposed to be with Pierre. Pierre is immediately suspected of being his accomplice and, trapped by his own turpitude, arrested. Entangled in his lies and denials, he has to admit his infidelity to get out of the impasse.

Inspector Sergil is assigned the mission to protect the dictator of Santa Juanita during his stay in France and - it goes without saying -trouble begins at once, as of his journey in the fast train from Paris to Marseilles. A lot of opponents of all kinds are intent on liquidating the dictator and they do not particularly like to have Sergil in their way. When Bijou, the inspector's fiancée, accepts to serve as a bodyguard for the dictator, she is soon kidnapped and will not be released until Sergil tells them about their enemy's hiding place. Where the shoe pinches is that the dictator has disappeared and Sergil does not even know where he is.

To escape his female fans, Carlos Cortez makes for the Riviera. Along the way, he picks up a hitchhiker named Annabel who invites him to go camping with her friends. Living under his real name, the incognito star wins new friends. But a theft complicates things. Fortunately, Annabel is still around and Jacques can do no better than to marry her.

This woman's melodrama pivots around a child that a famous actress had in her youth, but whom she has concealed from the wealthy businessman she is now with.
