A backcountry ski guide and a field biologist as set out to document and protect an elusive population of wolverines in Washington State's remote Methow Valley.

Roman Dial and his research team trek 112 miles above the Arctic Circle during a scientific expedition in Alaska.

In 1973, being a black skier was a lonely endeavor, one that came with racism and alienation. That year, the National Brotherhood of Skiers formed as a way to bring black skiers together to ski, celebrate and build community. With its annual summits and thriving youth organizations, the NBS has grown into a well-loved ski establishment. Along with torching the myth that black people don’t ski, the NBS continues to engender the next generation of black skiers. “It’s a beautiful sport,” one young participant says. “And I wish it was more accessible to everyone. I guess that’s where our ski club comes in.”

As wolves repopulate Washington, conflict is heating up with rural ranching communities. Daniel Curry’s job is to patrol wild areas on horseback, creating a buffer between wolves and the cattle herds that graze on public lands. Whenever these wild carnivores are suspected of killing livestock, the consequences can be fatal. As illegal poaching and state-sponsored kills take a heavy toll, can Daniel prove that coexistence between ranchers and wolves is possible?

Indigenous youth in Bristol Bay, Alaska are learning traditional salmon fishing practices while becoming advocates against a pollution threat from Pebble Mine.

Three women set sail on a 350-mile expedition through Alaska’s massive Tongass National Forest, exploring how clearcut logging in this coastal rainforest could affect wildlife, local communities, and our planet’s climate.
