In 1971 John Francis, known the world over as ‘Planetwalker,’ witnessed an oil tanker collision in the San Francisco Bay. The sight of oiled birds on the shoreline caused him to give up motorized transport and rely solely on his own two feet. Months after that he took a vow of silence convinced that listening rather than adding fuel to any fire was the way ahead. He didn’t talk, but he kept on walking clear across the country and back again. During the next seventeen silent years he listened and studied the world around him. Over many miles his idea of environmentalism changed. At the core of his emerging belief were the people he met, talked to, and broke bread with.

Paragliding high above the wetlands of Southern Louisiana, Ben Depp photographs the sublime complexity of the Mississippi River Delta. His awe is mixed with sadness, however. The wetlands are rapidly disappearing, largely due to environmental damage caused by pipeline canals. His is just one of the five stories this film intimately follows: from a local fisherman, to a biological scientist, to the Native American people of the United Houma Nation who call the wetlands home. By capturing the lives, livelihoods, and cultures facing extinction along with this precious ecosystem (and the city of New Orleans that it protects), Last Call For the Bayou is a cinematic call to action: act now, or let these myriad histories be lost forever.

Riders of Destiny follow several child jockeys from the remote Indonesian Island of Sumbawa as they go through a season of racing horses. Child horse racing is a cultural pastime which is primarily undertaken by an impoverished class of rural families whose economic actions are severely limited. The film touches on aspects of class, education, child welfare, and income inequality.

From summer 2021 through Donald Trump's re-election campaign, four Republican insiders wage an uphill battle to transform their party's stance on climate change from within. A young grassroots organizer, a big-city mayor, an Iowa farmer, and an evangelical pastor — each embedded in different corners of the conservative ecosystem — risk alienation from their own communities as they attempt to reframe climate action as a conservative value. As extreme weather intensifies and the 2024 election approaches, they confront a political machine built on denial, testing whether personal conviction can overcome tribal loyalty. This is a deeply personal story about the cost of defying your own side and the haunting question that drives them all: will their efforts be enough before time runs out?

Bryant Huffman was a climbing guide in Puerto Rico who spent his days scaling the cliffs and boulders of the island. Then Hurricane Maria swept through, a bomb of wind, water and devastation. In the destruction left behind, Huffman and his friends employed their rigging skills to clear trees, retrieve belongings and help the island on its long path of recovery. And in the process, they discovered that Maria had uncovered new climbing zones. “Maria made us realize the duality of things,” he says. “Even when you think it’s the worst case scenario, there’s always something positive out of it.”
