The two meet secretly in the woods near the castle and dream of a future together. However, their love is a thorn in the side of Černoočko's grandmother, the witch Křivonožka, who would prefer her grandson to forget about Mařinka and devote himself to the craft of witchcraft. Therefore, she takes advantage of the opportunity when Prince Hubert arrives at the castle for a courtship, deliberately arousing Černoočko's jealousy and hoping that he will renounce Mařinka.
