A drug-addicted doctor lives in isolation in Africa. One day, a young, attractive married woman approaches him, seeking an abortion. He agrees to perform the procedure, but only if she submits to his sexual demands. The woman refuses and leaves immediately.

A mountain river divides the village of Soviet Georgia and Turkey. A young border guard, Temur, notices that his daughter on the other side has fallen off a wooden bridge and into the river. Temur immediately jumps into the water and saves his daughter. Fatman is haunted by the entire village, the border guards. He now sees Soviet life with different eyes, but is forced to surrender to the Turkish authorities and return home. But Kolishvili's newly acquired friends and the days spent with them are deeply imprinted in his mind.

Kulak Walter's successor, Robert, calls his fellow villagers to form a collective farm. The poor peasantry of the village actively supports his call. Nino is a doctor whose husband Archil moves in with a singer named Ether, leaving Nino behind to raise their children alone. Tensions rise when Archil's bonds are stolen and Nino has to set the truth straight.
