Cobras & Lagartos is an urban tragic comedy, modern and humanist, that deals with two increasingly different worlds: one which values loyalty and solidarity and the other, where the seduction of superfluity and the power of money reign.

Isaura was born in 1835, in the farm of Commender Almeida. She is the daughter of the slave Juliana and the tenant of the farm, Miguel. Juliana dies right after the birth, because she denied going to bed with the Commender. He whips her to death in revenge. So, Isaura is raised and educated by Gertrudes, wife of the Commender, who always wanted to have a daughter. In spite of her excellent education and the white skin, Isaura, as a daughter of a slave,will always be treated as a slave.

In the past, as Adalberto Rangel, he met and seduced Maria Paula. With a calculated coldheart, he married her, stole her fortune, then abandoned her, unaware she was pregnant at the time. Ten years later, accompanied by her son Renato, Maria Paula plots to recover her dignity and to find justice by getting revenge against the indignities done to her.

Maria Luísa Ferreira de Albuquerque Caldas is a wealthy young woman living in a mansion in Alto Leblon. She belongs to an aristocratic Rio de Janeiro family and is engaged to Pedro Henrique Oliveira Andrade Neto. Together they form the perfect "rich kid and socialite" couple: beautiful, rich, charming, and modern. Her father is Fabiano Caldas, a nearly bankrupt businessman, but with a lot of airs, who relieves his tensions by squandering money he doesn't have on mistresses, further worsening the situation. Her mother is Eleonora, a very classy woman, but blind to the world and reality.

The involvement of Lígia das Graças Paiva with Gaius Gutemberg Roldão. More than just children of rival families, they are survivors of a massacre that nearly wiped the city off the map. Under the curse that the blood of a Roldão cannot mix with that of a Paiva, both will face much trouble. However, the tragedy is softened by parallel stories: power struggles, union politics, revenge, betrayals, gossip, witchcraft, and even a character from Brazilian folklore: the headless mule.

Amor e Ódio is a Brazilian telenovela produced by SBT and originally broadcast from December 10, 2001, to April 16, 2002. It is based on the Mexican telenovela La Dueña (1995), inspired by the Venezuelan telenovela La doña by Inés Rodena.
