Elmore John Leonard Jr. (October 11, 1925 – August 20, 2013) was an American novelist, short story writer, and screenwriter. His earliest novels, published in the 1950s, were Westerns, but he went on to specialize in crime fiction and suspense thrillers, many of which have been adapted into motion pictures.

A deputy catches Duell and is bringing him in and some men who want the reward try to get Duell from the deputy. There's a gunfight and Duell's the only one left alive. He then assumes the deputy's identity and goes to the nearest town and claims the deputy to be Duell McCall. He gets the reward was about to leave the town when his ruse is discovered and he is arrested. He's about to be hanged when Nora comes and spends some time with him. He's about to be hanged when the daughter of the wealthiest man in town is abducted. He then offers to help Duell escape if he brings her back. Duell goes and finds her but she tells him why the man wants her back. Duell hesitates to turn her over to the man, so holds Nora captive till Duell brings her back.
