Summer 1985. The headlines dominates of the hunt of a foreign submarine in the Stockholm archipelago. A group of young teenage boys makes unexpected discoveries.

"The Reef" - Paula, is in an acute crisis after her child died in sudden infant death. She takes the boat to the archipelago island where her husband Simon and Benjamin, her brother in law, are. Paula and Benjamin have previously had a relationship, Simon does not know this. It is a tensed situation between the three.

When the old University Professor discovers that some of his pupils often sneak into a speakeasy, The Blue Angel, to visit a dancer, Lola, he comes there to confront them. But instead he is attracted to Lola. He returns the next night to The Blue Angel to spend time with Lola and stays overnight. This causes problems at his work and his life takes a steep downward spiral.

The teacher Beata travel by train on her way home. Beata's husband has left her after that her affair with a young student, Misja, was exposed. He has taken care of their children.

Christmas 1945. In a train from Stockholm to Berlin are a motley collection. It is the failure of the author Gunnar who wants to leave his old life and make a contribution in Berlin; physician Henry who plan to marry Marie and likewise Henry's current wife Karin, who he plans to kill during the journey, the middle-aged gay couple Pompe and Sixten, a soldier going to Uppsala but is on the wrong train: the cheerful and cynical old Margaret, and a dressed elf and a surly conductor. With the train are also a number of Baltic refugees accompanied by two nuns to be sent to Germany.

The story is about a boy named Kalle Blomkvist who with his friends solves crimes. But also play the battle between the red rose and the white rose with his rival friends. But everything changes when Kalle Blomkvists friend finds a dead man in a cabin and then must his friends and he find the murdurer.

Two 10 year old girls from Stockholm decide to run away from home. They travel to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg to report a teacher who wants one girl to revert to study year 4.

Torun and Mikael have been married for a few years. When vacationing on the Danish coast, their young son Melker accidentally drowns. Torun initially blames her sister, who was supposed to supervise her children. Later she turns her anger and grief against her husband. Since none of them know what to do with their feelings, they start to drift apart.

Policeman Lasse rehabilitates young prisoners by taking them on survival course in the Swedish wasteland. And before he has to retire due to illness, he arranges one last trip.

It is the 61st birthday of the American author Eugene O'Neill. He is sick, old and his name has started to fade from the public consciousness. His wife Carlotta Monterey is far from supporting, in fact she constantly reminds him of his shortcomings and unfulfilled dreams. Their sons, Eugene Jr. and Shane come to congratulate him (and perhaps expecting to get some money). But they are unable to help their father, since they have their own problems: Eugene Jr. is an alcoholic, Shane is doing drugs.

Sonja repairs trains and wagons and has recently been abandoned by her husband. Now she wants to concentrate on her career, which she tells Kenneth, her colleague. New at the work place is the "engine-driver" with an obscure past. Sonja is fascinated with this man and his mysterious façade.
