Yoshiharu Ueoka

This is the first 16mm film by Makoto Tezuka, a multi-talented artist known as a “visualist” who engages in a wide range of creative activities. It depicts the story of fairies inhabiting a modern city through experimental imagery. “SPh” stands for “Spiritual Phenomenon” (fairy phenomenon). It could be described as a unique hybrid of science fiction, mystery, and experimental film.

When a married woman (Yuki) living in a large housing complex is tracked down by a dangerous lover from her past (Saito), her peaceful life unravels into a web of taboo encounters, voyeuristic neighbors, and hidden infidelities.

From the day a stranger falls from a building and brings a stranger with him, the protagonist's house is covered with grass and trees and turns into a jungle.

The story of a serial gourd robbery murderer and the police pursuing him is interspersed with episodes from a film director whose motif is based on Ueoka himself.
