A boy receives a Velveteen Rabbit for Christmas. The Velveteen Rabbit is snubbed by other more expensive or mechanical toys, the latter of which fancy themselves real. One day while talking with the Skin Horse, the Rabbit learns that a toy becomes real if its owner really and truly loves it. Farley's been a bad dog. He's been digging up the garden, squishing the squash, and chasing other dogs at the pet show. Elly labels him a “Good-for-Nothing.” Meanwhile, Michael makes an enemy of Brad Luggsworth by showing him up in front of his girlfriend. On Hallowe’en night, Farley escapes, forcing John to look for him while he takes Elizabeth Trick-Or-Treating. Max is kind of clumsy so he doesn't believe that Margaret will even notice him, but unbeknownst to him, Margaret feels the same way. The circus manager does his best to keep them apart and Max almost gives up. But love is a mysterious thing and when a determined Max overcomes his shy nature and sails down a treacherous river, not even fate can keep them apart.
