21st Century Girl is an omnibus feature that is of the girls, by the girls and for the girls. The work of 15 women directors under the age of 30, each of whom contributed an 8-minute film, the package highlights a range of genres, visions and thematic concerns.

The original screenplay was written for the compilations’ release, taking inspiration from KIRINJI’s songs, as well as from the Melancholy Mellow theme which is also the releases title.

School girl Miyuri Obara is bullied mercilessly but finds relief in an unexpected friendship with Tsumugi. Yet even as Miyuri's life turns around there's a lingering suggestion that something is not quite right.

Haruno, a second-year high school student, is aiming to go to a national university as her parents wish, but she really wants to be a groomer. However, she has been unable to confess her true feelings. Another worry for Haruno is the rumor that her childhood friend is dating a sugar daddy...

As summer nears, tired students Sana, Momo, and Muuko bond over a single coin and the bliss of cream soda. They cherish their fleeting moments together and seek creative ways to capture memories beyond social media, savoring the joy of childhood friendship.

Aki is an adolescent who is still unsure of their identity. When Aki moves to a new school, they meet and begin to spend time with Kiita. As the two spend time together, Aki eventually comes to terms with the feelings that have been building up in their mind like stagnation.
