The Bastard and the Beautiful World is an omnibus film consisting of four episodes. Fujiko is running as fast as she can, being chased after by a creepy masked man called Mad Dog. They meet a talented pianist on the way. A mysterious relationship develops between Utagui, a little girl who eats songs to live and an artist who can't sing anymore. A married couple sets off on a journey to find the right arm of their dead son. As they finally reach a beach in Okinawa, they find? Bastards come together on a night dancefloor for a show.

Twenty-five-year-old Momo has friends. Her parents live some distance away, but they sometimes get together to dine out. She dates an acceptable guy, and they share drinks at home. She apologizes to unreasonable clients over the phone at work and hones her ability to keep things civil with coworkers at drinks after work. This perfectly ordinary life means Momo doesn't immediately notice a nagging feeling: "I want to die." For her, it's a phrase she must never say aloud. One summer, unable to bear the thought of the coming Monday, Momo takes a day off from work. She begins to visit other people who struggle with thoughts of suicide, but have discovered alternatives and choose to live instead. She connects with these "Papagenos" through social media. Over the course of her difficult journey, Momo herself begins to discover other choices beyond death.

Kiyoko Tachibana, a student at an integrated middle and high school for girls in Tokyo, met Akari Okusawa, who was wearing a bright blue dress, at the start of the new school year in her first year of high school. In contrast to the other students, Akari freely interacts with everyone and quickly becomes popular, and Kiyoko is attracted to her. Kiyoko's newly awakened feelings for her soon involve the whole class, and the situation develops into a disturbance.

In a fading village in the Japanese countryside, the school is about to be closed, which weighs heavily on the students. Freshly arrived from Tokyo with his father after an acrimonious divorce, the shy Akira escapes into drawing and agrees to participate in a mural project to mark the end of the institution.

The year is 1949. While digging in ten-thousand-year-old red clay deposits, amateur archaeologist Aizawa discovers stone fragments that he believes to be the relics of ancient humans. But in the postwar construction boom, even red clay is in demand as a building material. Seeking funds for his work, Aizawa travels to a sacred mountain to hunt for the horn of a mythical beast known as "Four Eyes."

This movie is based on Arita porcelain and its kiln. Yui, a 14-year-old girl, lives as a single-parent family with her father Nobuo and her grandmother. Painting pictures with various colors is the only way for Yui to be herself. She never opens up to her father or friends in her day-to-day life.
