This is the first documentary film to depict the emotional growth and journey of contemporary Chinese animation creators. Through interviews with many prominent animators, the film offers a rare glimpse into the diverse experiences and behind-the-scenes stories that have shaped the evolution of Chinese animation.

The rigorous city life of China, while bustling and unforgiving, contains the everlasting memories of days past. Three stories told in three different cities, follow the loss of youth and the daunting realization of adulthood. Though reality may seem ever changing, unchangeable are the short-lived moments of one's childhood days. A plentiful bowl of noodles, the beauty of family and the trials of first love endure the inevitable flow of time, as three different characters explore the strength of bonds and the warmth of cherished memories. Within the disorder of the present world, witness these quaint stories recognize the comfort of the past, and attempt to revive the neglected flavors of youth.

The story takes place in a world where people’s beliefs can create and change superheroes. If you don’t believe that Superman can fly, then he would lose his ability to fly. When you believe that an ordinary man has some kind of power and as long as there are enough people to believe it, a new superhero can be born. So in this world, people’s beliefs can be counted statistically, and these statistics can be reflected on their wrists. “X To Be Hero X” tells how an ordinary people can be socially recognized and become a superhero. The story shapes a number of outstanding and capable characters with different styles, and shows a heroic world full of surprises and novelties.
