A collection of tapestries designed and sewn by the filmmaker illustrates the lyrics of a song about a young girl's hometown. Animation is created through a combination of sewing and cinematic techniques. The needlework, done in a naïve style, is particularly well suited to the bright colours and varied textures of the work. This lively film is designed to promote interest in the art of tapestry.

This short animation uses appliqué and embroidered tapestries to recall a young girl's happy summers spent sailing with her family off the coast of British Columbia. Each tapestry, meticulously stitched by hand with brightly coloured yarns, evokes the memory of leisurely days at sea, drifting among the islands.

Visual gags, humour, sound effects, live action and cut-out and embroidery animation combine to make this an enchanting parable of good will and understanding. A group of children finds a magic quilt that is their passport to a voyage of discovery. They step inside the quilt and as they travel through its velvet farmlands and satin cities, they experience the multiculturalism of Canada. The quilt is torn and the magic broken when a quarrel breaks out. Once the quilt is repaired and harmony restored, the children have learned that patience and goodwill are needed to mend and maintain quilts, friendships, and nations.
