The subtitle of Argentinian filmmaker Carina Sama’s first documentary movie is ‘diversity within diversity’ which aptly covers this close study of the lives of four transvestites and one transsexual in Bolivia today. Each of the five have made an extraordinary journey to reach the point of where they are now, and whilst most of have kept a remarkable sense of humor about their situation, for one of them, it all got too much in the end.

Malva was 95 years old. She was a transvestite who outlived three times over the average life expectancy of a trans person. She told us everything about her life during a year and a half. Together with Marlene Wayar, a Trans referent, we tried to unveil the mystery, analyzing her avant-garde militant activity and the impact she made in our lives.

The year 2023 marks the 35th anniversary of the association La Mujer y el Cine, and 43 female directors have come together to deliver a fragment of their gaze, a frame, an aesthetic and ethical decision, a tribute to women who anticipated the struggle. A leap into the void made by women filmmakers of different ages and backgrounds. United, in a sort of electronic loom, as an offering and a legacy in which a moment in the history of Argentine cinema is told, where we were all one, with our eyes on the past, our gaze on the present and the horizon full of the future.
