Strange Victory" is about racial bias in post World War II America. Following "Native Land" in Leo Hurwitz' filmography, it uses some of the same techniques: dramatized scenes interspersed with scenes of compilation news reel footage, and scenes of evocative imagery.

In 1879, the American Indian lived under severe handicaps: having no legal status as a human being and with the requirement to stay on reservations. Defying the law, Ponca Chief Standing Bear leads his people off their disease-ridden reservation. Though they're captured, the Poncas are given three days to find a lawyer and find a legal way to become their own people once again.

An innocent man is found guilty of murder and sentenced to death, but as he's about to be hanged he accidentally kills his executioner. He now faces a new trial, presided over by a young and inexperienced judge.

A dramatization of the 1865 war-crimes trial of Henry Wirz, commandant of the notorious Confederate POW camp at Andersonville, Georgia.

On May 17, 1968, at the height of the Vietnam War, nine men and women entered a Selective Service office outside Baltimore. They removed military draft records, took them outside, and set them afire with napalm.

A documentary on the importance of railroads in the United States.
