Gabriella Rosaleva (born February 13, 1942 in Besozzo) is an Italian painter and film director. Rosaleva began her artistic career as a painter. After attending the "Scuola di Cinema" in Milan, she directed her first film in 1978, the short Una Maria del '23, shot on Super 8, which was followed by a large number of other short films. in 1982, her first feature film was released, the Processo a Caterina Ross, which was created after actual witch trials in 1697. Rosaleva's unconventional visual language, which is not easily accessible to normal viewing habits, could also be seen in two other films of the decade (always according to her own script) as well as a number of documentaries. Towards the end of the sixteenth century, a group of musicians accompany a young woman bitten by a tarantula, Anna, on a pilgrimage to San Paolo di Galatina in the north of Puglia. During their journey they meet some extraordinary characters and experience a number of adventures, but the most important personage they meet along the away is the Pope's envoy who is travelling to San Paolo to investigate the violent crisis that is shaking the region and which has taken the form of a kind of exorcism accompanied by dancing and music called "tarantism". As he tries to explain to the faithful that the bite of a tarantula can not be the cause of such grave upheavals, the bishop finds himself the involuntary witness of the power of this extraordinary phenomenon. As to Anna and her musician friends their only remedy is the age-old archaic tradition of their forefathers.

The central theme of the project is the trip to Stockholm that Grazia Deledda made in December 1927 to collect the Nobel Prize for Literature, awarded to her in 1926. During the long and nerve-racking journey, accompanied by her husband, Grazia experiences a series of flashbacks that retrace some fundamental moments of her existence, such as one of the first "encounters" with snow or the death of her sister.
