The city has just survived the German siege and is still reeling from hunger, destruction, and death. The police clean up the crime in Leningrad after the war.

The story is about why people's destinies are intertwined, how they influence each other and how this changes the world around us.

It was there that Nikolai Arbenin and Viktor Stavitsky first met. Their rivalry, which began as a struggle between two men for a woman’s heart, over the years grew into a real “battle of the psychics” — only it takes place not on television, but in real life. Late 1988 – early 1989: a time when psychics packed full halls; they performed live on radio and on central television channels. A time when the confrontation between Nikolai Arbenin and Viktor Stavitsky reaches its climax...

Now a new researcher has arrived — a veterinarian, despite the lack of animals at the facility — and the scientists already in place are wondering why.
