After a lifetime apart, two childhood friends reunite, now widowed and elderly, in the village where they grew up. As they try to resolve past disagreements, they deal with their families' decision to place them in a nursing home. Knowing that they are nearing the end of their lives, the two friends strive to fulfill their old promise to stay together forever.

On this surrealistic tale, we follow Alice, 13, bubbly, colorful and… a Daughter of Death! Every day she receives a letter with a name and does her duty unwillingly. But her views on her job are challenged when she starts developing a relationship with a suicidal teenager.

Michael is an alcoholic. He abuses his wife, barely tolerating his kid. He enslaved them in paranoia, and through alcoholism delivered them into destitution. The trauma escalates when he takes thugs home, and must answer the consequences.

In a small Portuguese town, a family is turned upside down when their son leaves to study in London. Over a year, we see a daughter's coming of age, a father's mid-life crisis, a son's emancipation and a mother coping with an "empty nest"
