Jennifer Arenas

We follow two somewhat successful actresses who leave Colombia and travel to New York, aiming for greater fame and opportunity and a better life for themselves and a daughter, only to receive a rude awakening: they are only seen as immigrants now. Colombian director Daniel Arango, who lives in New York, clearly knows whereof he films, as do his leading actresses, Jennifer Arenas and Josefina Scaro, the latter of whom returns to MIFF after being here recently with the well-loved film American Thief.

In the summer of 1946, New York City becomes the stage for a tale of concealed emotions. A woman, burdened with a well-kept secret, embarks on a journey to preserve her intimate bond with a lover who happens to be her sister-in-law, blurring the lines of forbidden affection.
