The small town of Furnas Fundas hides a secret far older than its pastures, forests, or the people who live there. During a heated election marred by scandals, Bartira, known merely as the town drunk, unexpectedly finds herself at the center of it all. In 1917, Rebeca flees from hunger and war in Poland and arrives in Brazil to reunite with her husband and start a new life. In Rio de Janeiro, she discovers that her husband has died and ends up being held hostage by a large prostitution and women trafficking ring, led by the ruthless Tzvi. Rebeca transgresses her own beliefs and finds allies who are experiencing the same drama. Together, they decide to fight for freedom.

Based on the classic Brazilian television series that conquered audiences during Sunday night prime time on TV Globo, with improv that happens like in scenes of a play. The feature film’s structure maintains the members of a middle-class family from São Paulo, their maid, and the building’s doorman. It’s the return of iconic characters like Caco Antibes, Magda and Ribamar, and also new characters.

A group of friends in Sao Paulo see each other regularly in different venues of this huge metropolis, and act as their own de-facto family. They are similar in many ways, all upper middle class professionals between 28 and 32 years of age, and very conscious of their psyche and lives. The diversity within the group however, is also remarkable. It's made up about half men and half women. The men are the most diverse, ranging from your average guy looking for love to an Afro-Brazilian womanizing rich playboy, to a conflicted homosexual, heir to a business empire. It is the friendship (Amizade) and bond between these people that the film exposes, and at the same time it explores the different personalities of this apparently homogeneous, but actually psychologically diverse group of Sao Paulo yuppies. They stick together "'til friendship should ever separate them"
