Sandeep made his directorial debut with the Telugu film Arjun Reddy (2017), which he subsequently remade in Hindi as Kabir Singh (2019). Both films achieved significant commercial success while also generating controversy for their portrayal of relationships and masculinity, bringing Sandeep widespread attention within the industry. His subsequent film, Animal (2023), further intensified critical debates yet emerged as the highest grossing A rated Indian film of its time.
