In 1980, Ayuko is a new transfer student in Okayama from Tokyo. She doesn't have any friends and relies on her boyfriend Hideo who is a college student. Ayuko likes to draw a romance manga of herself and her boyfriend. Ayuko's classmate, Takemi, becomes a huge fan of Ayuko's manga and they become close friends. Due to an incident though, they drift apart. 30 years later, Ayuko is now a manga artist and comes back to Okayama to give a lecture at her former high school. There, Ayuko meets Takemi who is now a teacher.

This adaptation of the Nutcracker story (by Tchaikovsky and original choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov) is updated in this stop-motion animation from the original Japanese release of 1979. The new 3-D rendering is complemented by the art direction of Sebastian Masuda who is responsible for much of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's style. She also provides music here.

The show focuses on Mitsuko Aoyama (1874-1941), who was the first Japanese woman to marry a westerner.

Early in the nineteenth century in Paris, an evening party is held at Martin's residence on rue de la Chaussee d'Antin. Galantine, the residence's owner and widow of Duke Martin, holds a salon which is a social gathering of important people such as famous nobles, artists, and industrialists. At the party, a baron's second son Albert reunites with a count's daughter Vivianne whom he has known since childhood. After the loss of her father and elder brother who had stood against the present government, she was exiled to England along with her mother. However, following the advice of her aunt Galantine, she returned to Paris several years later when the government's vengeance against the opposition had subsided. Vivian and Albert are very delighted at their meeting again after a long interval and enthusiastically talk as if they were filling in the long blank of several years.

Gerard is a playboy novelist in New York, living off of his father and friends' money because none of his novels sell. He's a confirmed bachelor. One day, he gets a letter from his father in Monaco. His father is a very successful hotel owner, and the letter basically states that Gerard is to come home, buckle down and learn the business, and marry a woman of his father's choosing.

Paris, 1830. After the fall of Napoleon, Imperial Rule is restored by Charles X, younger brother of Louis XVI who was guillotined during the French Revolution. The aristocrats are somewhat fearful of the changing status quo, but nonetheless continue to live in luxury. In this social circle of truth and deception, much attention is gathered on one particular young noble, the Viscount Valmont. The Viscount family was ruined, but using his talent and charisma, he plans to make his house powerful once more.

Asuka Period, Japan. Ooama no Miko meets Nukata no Ookimi when he goes with his older brother (Nakano Ooe no Miko) to her house. There Nakano Ooe is wooing Nukata's older sister, and so the two younger siblings meet and fall in love. Five years later, Ooama and Nukata are married, and a daughter has just been born. Ooama talks happily to Nukata about his plans with his brother to jointly rule their empire of Yamato. As Nukata listens to his naive, happy chatter, she becomes uneasy. Later, Nakano Ooe arrives and tells Nukata that she has grown and become very lovely. He has fallen in love with her, and wants her for his own.
