The film follows the spirited press photographer Jo Markus (played by Denise De Weerdt), who works for an Antwerp weekly magazine. Nicknamed "The Princess" because of her aristocratic mother, she teams up with two bumbling friends (De Woodpeckers, Jef and Cois Cassiers) to not only bring a gang of thieves to justice but also discover love along the way..

Mr Van Peborgh, an "artiste photographe", remained alone with his three sons Henri, Frans and Louis after the death of his wife.The household is done by the maid Beth while the graceful girl Marie helps him in the store.The eldest son Henri is engaged to Hortense and thinks he's getting married soon.Louis wants to leave for America. The big engagement party on which the whole family is present starts without worry but ends up in a disaster because "It's cruel in the world".

The fainthearted cigar trader Ducker keeps himself quiet during World War II. That changes when parachutist Dorbeck lands in his backyard. It turns out the parachutist bears a remarkable resemblance to Ducker. Ducker follows Dorbeck blindly, becomes involved in the Dutch resistance and soon starts killing people. When he escapes through German lines to the freed South Netherlands, no one has ever heard of Dorbeck.

A band of traffickers seeks to infiltrate among smugglers on the Franco-Belgian border. Josée, a superb girl, is the mistress of Gueule en or, one of the smugglers.

Lucien Dolo, a diamond dealer candidate for the Municipal Council of Antwerp, is the subject of a press campaign insinuating that he would be responsible for the mysterious disappearance of his brother Frédéric-Sébastien, known as Freddy during an expedition to the Congo, in which Lucien had participated. Freddy's bad reputation and the hatred existing between the two brothers gives substance to this suspicion. In order to lift the charges against her husband, Isabelle asks Inspector Wens to investigate.

There is a beautiful windmill near Winkelbroek. The miller is Wannes Coppens, someone who knows all the ways, but especially the detours, to achieve his goal. He is particularly proud of his son Antoon. He is a teacher, conductor of the brass band, painter... and has the reputation of being the biggest joker in Winkelbroek. Through Antoon's marriage to Louisa from the brewery, the miller hopes to regain possession of a piece of land. But the old brewer is unyielding. Wannes then takes a detour via the mayor.

A shy young man, Tony, lives with his two aunts. The aunts are rather old-fashioned and, because they are very attached to their nephew, they prevent him from getting married. But that's without counting on two other cousins who are determined to find a wife for Tony and get him married.

When Thomas Borneman, a cheerful bachelor, reconnects with his childhood love Tinneke, he realizes that he still loves her. But Tinneke hasn’t changed and has no interest in marriage. Will he succeed in convincing the stubborn lady?
