Rainer von Hessen and Niki de Saint Phalle met after he saw a photo of HON, the 1966 installation for Moderna Museet Stockholm, in a German magazine. Their collaboration began when Saint Phalle first designed the costumes and sets to Aristhophanes’s LYSISTRATA, directed by Hessen (then known under the stage name Diez). Thereafter, Hessen co-authored and directed her play ICH, which was performed at the Staatstheater Kassel in 1968.

The naive 18 year old Dobrila leaves her little Serbian village to travel to Hamburg, Germany, where her boyfriend lives. The trip is not easy. Finally in Hamburg she has to realize her boyfriend is not very interested in a relationship. She doesn't tell him she's pregnant and starts on her way home to Serbia, which turns out to be even more exhausting.

The washed-up pop star “Black Jack” meets the young burglar Jeff Stankowski. He helps him out of a dangerous situation, takes him to Hamburg, and befriends him. Jakob is fascinated by Jeff's profession and the thrill that comes with it. Jeff trains him to be a safecracker, and in return, Jakob promises to make Jeff a huge star in the music business.

Carola and Dieter Martin have been married for 25 years. After Dieter dies in a car accident, Carola finds out that he was gay and had been in a relationship with the much younger lawyer Tobias Volperius for six years. Deeply shaken by this discovery, she withdraws from the outside world and tries to drown her sorrow in alcohol. When she attempts suicide, it is Tobias who finds and saves her. Based on the autobiographical notes by Leonhard Lentz the film tells the story of a man who was diagnosed with throat cancer. Besides the progress of the desease this film also focuses on the emotions and insights of the protagonist while being in therapy.
