The plot of the philosophical parable, the meaning of which boils down to the simple idea that "people are animals", develops in three instructive directions: the story of the shepherd waiting for death, who once did not meet his mother, who came to him from a distant village; the second story is about a young man who went to the mountains away from the worldly world, and finally, the third story is about a sheep trying to save its child from the fate that was destined for it.

The film is about a Turkmen who defends his homeland from invasion. He is captured, tortured, and brainwashed into serving his homeland's conquerors. He is so completely turned that he kills his mother when she attempts to rescue him from captivity.

Villagers Adzhap and Meilis fell in love with each other. However, Adzhap's relatives, who followed old traditions, separated the lovers. Years passed. Adzhap and Meilis met again, and their old feelings were revived. However, Adzhap says goodbye to Meilis forever, so as not to destroy his family...

In the summer of 1918, the situation in Transcaspia was especially difficult. The Menshevik government led by Funtikov seized power. Only the fortress city of Kushka remains Soviet. The commander of the garrison, the former tsarist general Vostrosablin, decides not to surrender the fortress. To do this, he and Commissar Morgunov are developing a defense plan. White Colonel Zykov, with the support of the Basmachi and the British, hopes to take Kushka. But the tough confrontation between the parties ends with the victory of the defenders of the fortress.

Like all of the Turkmen director Khalmamed Kakabayev's films, this one is about children and their first discoveries of the world of emotions and nature. Seven-year-old Almaz lives in an orphanage. He is very independent and rarely asks for help from his teachers. Like all orphans, Almaz dreams of his parents suddenly appearing in his life. One day, when he meets a woman in a cemetery who is mourning her son, Almaz befriends her and helps her cope with her grief.

But moving flocks of sheep is no easy task: it requires loyal shepherds. Now Ataniyaz-bai pins all his hopes on the young shepherd Kerim, who is passionately in love with his daughter, Ziba.
