The hunt for imperial gold continues. A priceless scepter, a treasure that could secure a worry-free life in sunny Rio de Janeiro for Ibrahim Bender and his young apprentice Ostap, has slipped from under their noses and ended up in possession of Nestor Makhno, an anarchist army commander. Makhno is convinced that the scepter is one of many imperial relics hidden in the area. With mafia, partisans, and officers of the Red and White armies all determined to get their hands on the fabled gold cache, Ostap and his mentor Ibrahim must surpass their own brilliance to outmaneuver their rivals and snatch the prize. Winter. A city on the eve of New Year’s. Storefronts decorated for the holidays. New Year’s Eve approaches. We all start to rush, trying to catch up on everything we’ve postponed throughout the year. And just then, at the publishing house where the main character works, a well-known plastic surgeon brings in his ‘masterpiece.’ One story among many — where the characters can’t change everything overnight. And yet, a ruined New Year’s Eve often turns out surprisingly well.

The forty-year-old actor, who is going through a difficult divorce, is gaining a course in a theater workshop. Gradually, acting trainings become similar to psychotherapy sessions. One day everything gets out of hand.

Filmed in April 2010, the film is based on real documents of Russian social and political life and on an analysis of the conflict that has developed around the planned Okhta Center development in Petersburg, where the Gazprom corporation intends to house the headquarters of its locally-based subsidiaries in a 403-meter-high skyscraper. The proposed skyscraper has provoked one of the fiercest confrontations between the authorities and society in recent Russian political history. Despite resistance on the part of various groups who believe that construction of the building would have a catastrophic impact on the appearance of the city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Gazprom has so far managed to secure all the necessary permissions and has practically begun the first phase of construction.
