Sidarta Ribeiro, a Brazilian neuroscientist, explores how dreams and other forms of access to the unconscious can transform human experience. As the Sars-Covid 19 pandemic increased, Rubiane Maia was in Folkestone, England, and Tom Nobrega in Tarapoto, in the Peruvian Amazon. Both were surprised by the sudden need to cancel planned trips to Brazil, their homeland. The closed borders brought unusual situations and an unknown feeling of exile. As news from Brazil reaches the distance like rocks breaking their computer screens, blurring the line between what is personal and what is collective, the pair of friends share their bewilderment and try to find some resonance amid the overwhelming amount of information that floats the virtual space.

In the documentary "Pisar Suavemente na Terra," three Indigenous leaders from the Amazon try to keep their ways of being in the world alive. This is the story of Kátia, chief of the Akrãtikatêjê people, of Manuel, chief of the Munduruku people and of José Manuyama, a teacher of Kokama origin. The three narrate the threats to their territories promoted by large-scale mining, monoculture, oil extraction, logging and the construction of hydroelectric plants. Interconnected by the voice and ancestral thoughts of Ailton Krenak, these accounts of resistance present us with other ways of existing and walking in the world.

The documentary follows the trajectory of Ailton Krenak, indigenous leader from Minas Gerais, a descendant of the Krenak ethnic group, formerly called Botocudos. After studying in São Paulo, Ailton was active in the defense of indigenous peoples. While traveling through Brazil and the world, he became a kind of ambassador for the original Brazilian cultures. The film features images and testimonies of Ailton at different times in his life, as well as other characters that are part of his universe.

Brazil, 21st Century. An indigenous boy is born in an isolated village in the north of the Amazon. His mother and brothers believe that he is the reincarnation of Makunaíma, the creator of the world we live in, and that he would have returned to save the planet from the apocalypse. Seeking to understand about his origins and his mythical identity, the young Makunaima meets Ci, the mother of the forest, with whom he falls in love. When Ci disappears, Makunaíma decides to cross the country after the man who took with him the last memory of his great love: a magical seed with mysterious powers.

In 2019, a new government stepped into Brasília promoting the dismantling of rights and encouraging the occupation of indigenous territories by gold miners and agribusiness. This film shows the strength of indigenous mobilizations, as they quickly rose up, with the collective body of the native peoples transforming mourning into a struggle, resisting together to strengthen their traditions and ways of existence.

In the post-pandemic future of covid-19, will the centrality be the financial casino and the accumulation of wealth by an elite or a quality life for all, with less inequality? Did the minimal state show itself capable of serving the collective? How to guarantee life without social and labor rights? What model of society do we want to live in? The film addresses the dismantling of the concept of social welfare and makes us reflect on the incompatibility of neoliberalism with a humanist project of society.

Through clippings, the film draws a narrative line between the construction of racism in Brazil and the United States, having as base the European invasion of the continent, police violence, the genocide of the black people, the massacre of indigenous peoples, religious violence, the criminalization of funk music, structural racism in art and education, the importance of quota policy and the need urgent historical repair as a commitment by the Brazilian state to the black people.
