Dictionnaire amoureux du journalisme poster
NR

Inspired by a book by Serge July, Le Dictionnaire amoureux du journalisme (A Lover's Dictionary of Journalism) is a declaration of love for freedom of the press, which underpins all other freedoms. This immersion with journalists at the heart of the stories they have covered brings to life often deeply moving investigations. Above all, it explains what a journalist is, what drives them, and what we owe them.

In 2014, the movie « Mommy » directed by Xavier Dolan, got the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. This was a great achievement for this director prodigy from Quebec, who had just turned 25. The script - a tumultuous relationship between a single mother and his hyperactive and violent son - and the bold direction electrified the audience. Shot in Montreal, the documentary by Tessa Louise Salomé tells the genesis of this family drama. It also reveals the failures of the society in Quebec : the failure of the mental institution and the impoverishment of the middle class.

Released in 2006, British filmmaker Stephen Frears' "The Queen" dramatizes the brief but intense conflict between Prime Minister Tony Blair and Elizabeth II in 1997, following the death of Princess Diana. The documentary underlines the film's boldness. By taking the living royal family as its subject, it breaks a taboo in British cinema and reveals a deeply human queen. Blending freedom of tone with documentary rigor, it offers a lesson in how fiction can serve historical truth.

Once Upon a Time... Lawrence of Arabia poster
NR

Once upon a time in 1962, « Lawrence of Arabia », a film by David Lean. Inspired by the life of T.E Lawrence, the film tells the epic story of the British officer who led, between 1916 and 1918, the rebellion of the Bedouin tribes against the Ottoman Empire. When the film is released at the very beginning of the 1960’s, Great-Britain and France are painfully withdrawing from their colonies, as Arab nationalism is experiencing a renaissance around the world. Five years after the French and British humiliating Suez expedition the film remains the proud, nostalgic counterpoint of political events of the 1950's when a British officer was encouraging Arab nationalism.
