A short story film depicting the three different faces of crime. In the short story "The Weekend", Karas kills a woman he raped some time ago in order to silence her. However, he accidentally kills another woman. In "Hostages", a drug addict, Chaban, terrorizes the hospital's operating team, but the disciplined doctors handle the difficult situation. In "The Pickpocket", the thief Benda wants to return to his trade immediately after his release, but his attempt ends tragically.

The story follows three middle‑aged gentlemen—Antonín, Canon Roch, and Major Hugo—who while away their rainy summer days at a neglected riverside spa. Their languid routine is briefly enlivened by a traveling magician and his assistant Anna, whom they vie to impress with whimsical flair.

The plot begins in the Soviet Union showing first efforts to establish the Czechoslovak legion in 1942. The film also shows the assassination of Heydrich and the subsequent annihilation of Lidice. The main topis of the film is battles with German troops for Sokolovo.

This film is about life of a family, which lived in Prague since since 1968 to 1980. As the times go by, the friens of family live in Austria. And now for change the family visit "a better life" in west Europe and they found out how it is to be something second-rate.

In Prague they all take up their lodgings at the house At Blue Fish in which they intend to arrange the programs. The firm is owned by widow Evzenie with whom Pasparte shares flat and bed. Evzenie is jealous of Aloisie therefore Pasparte sends Aloisie as a housewife to the single man Jakub Kolenatý who earns his living by photographing and wants to record the revived pictures of Prague. Pasparte wants to found in Prague the first permanent Czech movie theatre in which there would be projected also the original Czech films.

A remote cottage becomes the scene of a thrilling drama: two criminals who have robbed a car transporting payroll money break into the weekend home. They capture the residents and hold them hostage to protect themselves from the encroaching police siege. However, director Dušan Trančík is more interested in portraying social ills, especially ruthlessness and petty bourgeoisie, than in telling a thrilling crime story involving a double murder.
