Taxi driver gets in a jam when he receives a lot of money as inheritance from a distant family member when in fact, the money came from a bank robbery.

A young woman, raised in the big city, provokes the greed of several fishermen. She falls in love with a black man, challenges social conventions and faces the fury of her former companion, a millionaire "playboy" who had taken her to the village to spend the summer holidays.

A nationalist musician, Hélio, plans to stage a samba show at a luxury hotel nightclub. The owner, Ademar, influenced by his daughter Marisa, is only interested in big jazz acts. Hélio, aided by Bebeto and Dorothéia, presents a fake Dorothy Bridge and a Sunday Júnior, parodies of Eartha Kitty and Sammy Davis Junior. While being covered by these fake artists, Hélio searches for a singer for a repertoire based on Carmen Miranda.

In the Rio de Janeiro Central Station, the infamous pickpocket Mão Leve meets Honorina—a Northeastern girl looking for a job—with whom he falls in love. Willing to conquer her, the thief decides to abandon his life of crime, but soon finds out it won't be easy.
