Jim Rakete, born in Berlin in 1951, is a German photographer, photojournalist, filmmaker, author and producer. He is best known for his portrait photographs, mostly in black and white. Rakete photographed numerous personalities from the German and international music and film scene as well as from the world of politics. From 1977 to 1987, Rakete ran a photo agency in Berlin. During this time, he not only photographed the covers of many New German Wave musicians, but also worked as a manager. Among the best-known artists and bands that Rakete looked after were Nina Hagen, Nena, Spliff, Interzone, Sternhagel, Morgenrot and Die Ärzte. They plan to exploit his defection from communism both ideologically and financially. But Klaus, as ill-at-ease in the West as in the East, is reluctant to be an expendable commodity. Leaving his contract unsigned (or signed in his manner), he departs for Cambridge to meet his father, a concert player, who left East Berlin when Klaus was young. He is accompanied by a young French journalist, Emma, who claims to have knowledge of where his father has been living since he disappeared for more than a decade.
