An Irish Catholic family returns to 1930s Limerick after a child's death in America. The unemployed I.R.A. veteran father struggles with poverty, prejudice, and alcoholism as the family endures harsh slum conditions.

Michael Lynch is a notorious criminal with two wives and a flair for showmanship. He's also a huge embarrassment to the local police, who are determined to bring him down once and for all.

After failing school, 18 year old Irishman leaves his small town in Kerry to find work. In London, he finds a job at an oil refinery and befriends a crude Scottish worker, but soon starts thinking about going back to school. One day, the job sends him and his Scottish friend back to Kerry. There, tensions rise.

Set in 1960s' rural Ireland, an 11 year old boy faces his insecurities and his strained relationship with his parents, as his father prepares to take a posting with the Irish Peacekeeping force in the Belgian Congo.
