Feri Lainšček

The documentary about Feri Lainšček, one of the most prolific and highly acclaimed Slovenian writers and poets, foregrounds the essence of his creativity shaped up by his commitment to love, the Pannonian landscape with the River Mura, friendship with the Roma people, the blending of the magical world and reality, and the ongoing search for answers to the most fundamental questions of life. In the film, sections of his life are juxtaposed with his poems about demons.

Feel for the Wind is about the power of poetry, about the wind, and about what lies outside our control. It is a poetic portrait of Prekmurje, through the masterful words of the Prekmurje poets Feri Lainček and Dušan Šarotar, interpreted on film by a Bela Krajina native Maja Weiss. In 2004, the publisher Franc-Franc issued a book called Feel for the Wind, which is a unique spiritual monograph of Prekmurje and, at the same time, part of a wider artistic project. The authors envisaged the project as an artistic journey following the feel for the wind, which is understood as a metaphor for silence, for mystery, for that complete otherness.

Breza, a country boy from a godforsaken Prekmurje village, wishes to perform at the village festivities playing his electric guitar, but is faced with fierce competition in the form of a traditional Roma band entertaining the villagers by playing popular folk music. Nevertheless, his music seems to be the key to the heart of Silvija, a village beauty and the daughter of a wealthy gastarbeiter from Switzerland, who was sent home to find a healthy Slovene husband. However, the story of Breza and Silvija only marks the beginning of the plot whose main character is actually Düplin, an eccentric outsider, a deaf-and-dumb tramp or, as Breza's mother, the old Popovka, a farm owner and a fortune-teller also referred to as Strina, called him "a lad from a citrus producing country".

A story about the price of success. It reveals the cruelty of the music scene that a young and talented girl has to cope with in order to succeed.

Catholic priest Jon Urski has broken the rules. As a result he has to go to Mokus, an abandoned parish in the middle of a marsh which has been without a spiritual leader since the mysterious death of the previous parish priest Janos Talaber. Jon Urski is resolved to rebuild, with the help of the villagers, the ruined church at Mokus. But the people are afraid that restoring the church will arouse pagan demons. The wild waters are beginning to rise... Water is pouring into the restored church from all sides and begins to erase the border between reality and the dreams.

A tragedy looms for a young Gypsy violinist whose half brother is in the throes of first love.
