The Sino-Japanese War at Sea 1894 is set in the late 19th century and revolves around the events of the First Sino-Japanese War (1894–1895), which was fought between the Qing Empire of China and the Empire of Japan.

Thomas is trekking in some remote but scenic Chinese backwater and, lost, is taken in by Mao. Neither speak the other’s language, and comic miscommunication rules as Thomas arrogantly demands service, and Mao does his best to oblige.

The film is based on the history of the birth of the Lenin, the first plane of the Red Army, and is based on the time when the children's league was born, and the time when they shot down and wounded 114 enemy planes and produced a dozen famous air force combat heroes such as Wang Hai and Sun Shenglu. The film is based on the youth of many of the founding generals of the Dabie Mountains, including Gao Houliang, political commissar of the Third Air Division of the Volunteer Army, and was filmed over three years.
