The story opens with a meticulously planned robbery of the "Harman Development Bank" (哈曼发展银行). Tan Li (Shi Yanneng), a ruthless bandit leader, orchestrates the heist with his crew members Han Qiliang and A Mu during a torrential downpour. The robbery quickly turns violent—they shoot and kill a patrol officer named Bowen, triggering an immediate police response.

Folklore journalist Lu Xiaosheng visits the Liansheng Paper Effigy Shop to investigate a strange tale. Twenty years ago, Qiao Yuanyuan died unjustly, and a paper figure made for her burial was said to bring her spirit back to kill her father. Only the craftsman’s apprentice knows the truth.

A storm causes a plane to crash on a remote Pacific island, leaving behind a few survivors. Among them are Hao Ran, a failed businessman who wants to die so his family can collect on his life insurance policy, Ruan Ning, his ex-lover who also happened to be on the plane, and Li Jun, whom some of the passengers recognize but can't remember from where. It's in the cockpit, which has become separated from the rest of the plane on the way down, but that means a long and dangerous journey across the island, and dealing with a bunch of other giant creatures and each other.
