Selamsiz (wich means 'no greeting') is a small town in Anatolia. The town has a lot of problems but noone from governments come and see the town. One day the mayor learns that the prime minister will come to the city. They, now, have a chance to solve their problems. However, they think that they should have a band to greet the prime minister.

The story revolves around the beautiful Nazan, the neighbor's daughter, who manages to remain a virgin despite marrying two of the neighborhood's handsome men, Selami and Cavit; the fierce competition between Selami and Cavit for Nazan; the schemes orchestrated by Nazan's mother, Necla; and the neighbors' curious observation of these intriguing developments, their astonishment, and their simple reactions. Initially, she staged plays for her friends on a small stage she had set up inside her home, performing the plays of the Afife Company. Her greatest obstacle was her father. With the support of her grandfather, the Pasha, and her childhood friend and lover, Dr. Ziya, Afife stood up to her father. She could not suppress her desire for much longer.

Nesibe lives with her poor family in a slum in Istanbul. Her father, who can't hold down a job, often takes out his anger on his family. Knowing that this is not all there is to life, Nesibe finds solace in movies.

Murat is a charismatic political prisoner in Malatya. He is well respected by both inmates and prison officers. There he meets two women: Tozey, a famous prostitute, and Hanim, a defenseless woman accused of murdering her husband.

After receiving a letter from a woman named Asiye asking for help to save her, the President of the Associations Against Prostitution visits the brothel to save Asiye. However, she finds herself in a strange musical show.

The most famous thing about Bitlis, as evoked by the song "Bitlis'te 5 minare" (Five Minarets in Bitlis), is the unique atmosphere of this small city, famous for its parched lands, historical fabric, and tobacco.
