Cartoon based on the Ukrainian fairy tale of the same name by Ivan Franko. A fearsome beast arrived in the forest to impose its order in it and called Ostromysl. His formidable appearance frightened all the forest animals, and even Mikhail Potapych himself. When Ostromysl fell into the river and the paint was washed away by the water, the animals were convinced that it was just an ordinary fox. The rascal was chased out of the forest. The movie ends with Hedgehog's admonition: "Whatever the beast looks like, don't take his word for it!“

The station keeper Kruglikov was exiled to a remote Siberian village many years ago for shooting his superior, a general, who demanded that he go with him as a matchmaker to Kruglikov's favorite girl, Raya. A political exile is brought to the station. She turns out to be Raya. For a few minutes the former bride and groom were together, and then she was taken away again.

After getting lost in the street, a dog is adopted by a kindly clown.

WWII. The Nazis subject the radio station on Bezymyanny Island to a brutal bombardment and soon land a landing force. The enemy mercilessly destroys all life, but the radio station continues to operate—meteorologist Asya has installed a spare radio on an abandoned schooner. The Soviet warship and seaplane continue to fight the invaders.
