Ben argues with his father about buying a new truck for their lumber company, but John keeps insisting that they can't afford it. Elsewhere, Erin now has three children and is separated from Paul. Her decision to start seeing another man causes some indignation among the other Walton family members. Ike and Corabeth become grandparents when Aimee has a daughter, while Elizabeth returns from Europe and reunites with Drew, her old beau.

Doris and Dub are a young couple with the usual ups and down life. They unexpectedly find friendship and good advice from curmudgeonly Woody Watts, a railroad man who was recently forced to retire.

In 1964, John-Boy Walton is planning his wedding to Janet Gilchrist, the editor of a New York fashion magazine and the daughter of a diplomat. The two of them plan a small wedding and he invites the family and friends from Walton's Mountain to come to New York for the celebration. However, Janet's Aunt Flo has other ideas and begins to take over their wedding preparations. Added to the wedding plan stress, John-Boy is also trying to write an article about his Grandma, but decides that he needs to go home to escape the wedding preparations, as well as to reunite with his grandmother and fill in some gaps leaving Janet in New York trying to prevent her wedding from getting out of hand. But she too leaves the city and heads for Walton's Mountain to plan their wedding there.

A mother bobcat and her two cubs share a cave with guitarist Paco who is also an expert woodcarver. Paco is hired to give tours by by Joe of Colossal Cave. Mom feline struggles to provide her youngsters with food while evading hunters.

An Indian working on an archaeological dig finds an injured coati mundi, names him Cocoa, and nurses him back to health. The rancher, on whose land the Indian is digging, hates the coatis but changes his tune when Cocoa helps save his life. Stars Edward Colunga, Robert Keyworth.

A girl, Carol Lee, adopts a mischievous crow, but has to work hard to keep it from being shot by a farmer who hates crows.

A biologist helps save a young seal who was caught in a fishing net, but the seal hides in a small boat, not knowing that it is about to be towed far from the bay. The seal causes all sorts of trouble, until the biologist takes him back to the bay.

A desert loner adopts an ocelot he finds in an old car, but later realizes that it must be set free. The ocelot finds a mate, and so does the loner, falling for a young nurse that moves to the area.
