Zoilo Cajigas y Sotomayor is a carver of wooden models of saints. Don Zoilo is one of Puerto Rico's best-known artisans and was 96 years old at the time of the filming. The film shows the elaborate process behind his craftsmanship.

Based on a Puerto Rican folk tale, the story begins when Mañito, an owl, is invited to a festival. Not feeling happy with the way he looks, Mañito borrows some bright colored feathers in order to attend.

Focuses on the history of the Archivo General de Puerto Rico (General Archive of Puerto Rico) which started in 1955.

The story is told through the eyes and work of Dr. Ricardo Alegria — head of Puerto Rico's Office of Cultural Affairs and the first executive director of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture.
