Based on A. Galych's play "Matrosskaya Tishina", "Papa" tells a story of a Jewish father who dreamed of seeing his son perform on a stage in front of huge audiences, he dreamed of seeing him as the greatest violinist of his time. To achieve the goal he taught his son Dodik how to play the violin from the yearly age. When Dodik grew up he left the small town he and his father lived in to study in the Moscow Conservatory leaving his past behind. But one day he has to choose either to loose his father or everything he has achieved.

Most of the action of the film takes place in the studio of a talk show, where a political scientist, a patriot, a pop star and other characters, led by the host, discuss the figure and legacy of St. Sergius of Radonezh. In the midst of recording, the Presenter suddenly finds out that his program is being closed. Having decided that he has nothing to lose, the Presenter goes all in and seeks, first of all, to "expose" the church, the authorities, and his interlocutors... But the effect is not at all what he expected. In the heat of a lively and even furious polemic, we begin to see the true Sergius of Radonezh, and in episodes of history, as in a mirror, we guess the problems of modern Russia.…

Accidentally finding themselves in a half-abandoned hotel, the apparently happy newlyweds get acquainted not only with its strange owner, but also with each other's unsolved secrets. Will the lovers be able to maintain a relationship after what they have heard? Earn forgiveness? And if the truth is really capable of liberating, then which of them?
