Thus, instead of starting a full-scale gang war, he entrusts Takeshi Kanzaki (Hitomi Matsuda) with carrying out revenge on the direct perpetrators and mastermind. Where had Kanou's plans leaked from? Vice Chairman Shinji Wakamiya (Kazuyoshi Ozawa) discovers that the day before Kanou was killed, Daisuke Sakai (Daisuke Nagakura), Chief of the Fourth-Generation Sakata family, met with Eiichi Konkai (Eiichi Furui) of the Sakuraba clan. After extracting the truth from Konkai, Kanzaki goes after Sakai—but Sakai and his men are headed for Kanou's gravestone...

Chairman of the Souryukai, Yukihiro Kawaji (Hitoshi Ozawa), is shielded by Executive Director Takeshi Kanzaki (Hitomi Matsuda) who takes a bullet and is severely injured. The Sakata family holds an emergency executive meeting, attended by Detective Umezawa (Hoka Kinoshita) from the Fourth Investigative Division, to deny any involvement. Meanwhile, at the Souryukai, Vice Chairman Shinji Wakamiya (Kazuyoshi Ozawa) and the others begin to prepare for retaliation against the Sakata family. The tension between both sides rapidly escalates — following emergency surgery, Kanzaki narrowly escapes death. Then, at Kawaji's command, the battle finally ignites!!

Not long after the end of the Tohoku conflict, Kyowakai Chairman Kudo (Hakuryu) is attacked. He narrowly survives, but soon after, Himuro (Yasukaze Motomiya) is also shot by a hitman. Thanks to a counterattack led by Tamura (Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi) and the others, the assailants are captured, revealing that the attack was ordered by Sakashita, head of the Sakashita-gumi in Fukui, a group connected to the West Japan Mutsumikai. Seeking revenge, Kawatani (Hitoshi Ozawa) takes the lead in preparing Kyowakai for a full-scale war against the West Japan Mutsumikai, mobilizing the entire organization. However, Kudo intervenes and orders a withdrawal from Fukui.

The yakuza world has entered an age of war. In Owari, Nobuhide Oriki (Tokuma Nishioka) pushes for unification, while his son Nobunaga (Hitoshi Ozawa) seizes territory by force. Suruga boss Yoshimoto Imanishi (Naoya Makoto) launches an invasion, sending Ieyasu Tokusawa (Yasukaze Motomiya)—but he’s abducted by Nobunaga’s ambitious younger brother, Nobuyuki (Masaki Nishimori), who is soon captured himself. A truce is struck with a hostage exchange, but when the Imanishi underboss turns up dead, peace collapses and war erupts. Meanwhile, Michizo Saimon (Shinzo Hotta) of Mino, dispatching young Hitoyoshi Toyoumi (Hideo Nakano) on a dangerous mission.

When a doctor is found dead and the company's exclusive data on a cancer drug is missing, detective Takayama and Oshita are called to the Nakamitsu pharmaceutical laboratory. However, a bungled attempt to catch the murderer leave Takayama and Oshita reassigned to the lackluster task of patrolling public bathrooms to keep them out of trouble.

Formerly a covert spy under the shogunate, ronin Azami Onijuro and his carefree companion, ronin, journeyed along the Kiso Highway. As they approached the Echizen Domain, they encountered a woman named Osode. Recognizing Onijuro's formidable skills, she asked for his help as she was on her way to Owari. Osode, the daughter of the second-ranking retainer of the Katsuyama Domain, carried a blood-sealed letter that served as evidence of a conspiracy involving the assassination of the domain lord by the Deputy Chief and the lord's younger brother. Onijuro's group becomes a target and is chased after by the chief retainer's top enforcer.

The fall of Yoshimoto Imanishi spreads Nobunaga Oriki’s (Hitoshi Ozawa) reputation across Japan. In Omi, he forges a brotherhood oath with Nagamasa Asakawa (Daisuke Nagakura), further extending the Oriki-gumi’s influence. Alarmed, National Police Agency Director Ichijo (Masahiko Tsugawa) orders their destruction. Meanwhile, Ieyasu Tokusawa (Yasukaze Motomiya) abandons the Imanishi-gumi, declaring independence as the Tokusawa-gumi. Upon learning this, Nobunaga extends his hand, joining forces with Tokusawa in pursuit of nationwide unification. Elsewhere, Yoshiaki Ashitaga (Kazuyoshi Ozawa), ousted from the Murohachi Alliance, seeks to rebuild it, turning to Shingen Takebe (Shun Sugata) for aid—but is coldly passed around. The protagonist is a former ordinary person who married the daughter of a yakuza boss and became unwillingly entangled with the underworld. The portrayal of the yakuza world, its organizations, and its characters from the perspective of a man not yet fully steeped in violence is fascinating. The Ryusei-kai, led by Yajima Joji, is targeted by yakuza organizations from both the east and west. Known as the “Mobsters” and feared, the secret to their strong unity lies in a blood oath stronger than family bonds. Daisuke, who becomes the adopted son-in-law of Ryusei-kai executive Kitagawa Shunzo, is drawn from an ordinary life into the world of violence.

With the death of Nobuhide Oriki (Tokuma Nishioka), a brutal succession battle erupts within the Oriki-gumi. By vote, Nobunaga (Hitoshi Ozawa) becomes second-generation boss, forcing his brother Nobuyuki into rebellion. In the bloody aftermath, Nobunaga kills both Nobuyuki and his relative Nobuyasu Iwasaki (Hitomi Matsuda). Tragedy deepens as his right-hand man Masahide Hirako (Jiro Okazaki) takes his own life, and his father-in-law Michizo Saimon (Shinzo Hotta) is assassinated in a coup. Now as boss, Nobunaga sets the underworld in motion once more: Ujiyasu Nanjo (Sansho Fukami) rises in Kanto, Motonari Mōriya (Shinichi Chiba) expands in Aki, and in Nagano the fated clash of Kenshin Uemura (Ryuji Harada) and Shingen Takebe (Shun Sugata) begins.
