When a Kolkata surveillance specialist and his roommate install a small camera in the home of their beautiful neighbor, they somehow become terror suspects in director Buddhadeb Dasgupta's cutting commentary on CCTV society.

Janala tells the story about a man, Bimal, who decides to give a little back to his old school despite the fact he has very little money himself. As a child Bimal had a favourite corner classroom where he used to sit and daydream out of a broken window, and so when he finds himself back in his old school he feels compelled to replace the window.

The way that people are used as bait is explored through three stories about three different characters.

Rajani is a well-known prostitute in a small town in Bengal, India, living in a brothel with her teenage daughter, Lati. With few options for a better life, Rajani hopes to arrange a marriage for her daughter with a wealthy local businessman - an idea Lati opposes. Choosing a life of unpredictability and the possibility of education over the known fate of arranged marriage, Lati takes off for Calcutta, encountering several quirky characters along the way.

Anwar, a maverick detective works in a small detective agency in Kolkata. He has a habit of getting involved in the personal lives of his cases. In one such instance, he takes a case in his rural homeland and is forced to confront his own romantic tragedy.

Sen Gupta, a doctor who only treats upper-class patients, is forced to confront his own moral and medical beliefs as he discovers rural India during an unexpected stop at a village. He finds a breathless man lying on the side of the road. With little sympathy, the doctor sends him back to his own village for treatment. When Dr. Gupta discovers that the villages want a witch doctor to treat the man, he attends the exorcism and is shocked. A transformation of the cold city man then follows.
