Germany, around the turn of the century. When sailor Poldi returns to his Bavarian home village after many years at sea he falls for his childhood friend Dorle. But Dorle is already promised to the village blacksmith Domini. A bitter rivalry between the two ensues.

A gang of hoods led by "Shark" tries to extort protection money from bar owner Susanne. She soon forms her own gang and claims the tough Charly will protect he. Charly, actually a meek Scotsman, deals with the hoods in spite of himself.

The business is a beach hotel where Karl, booked by the drunken janitor as "Carla", ends up in a triple room where two girls are billeted.
