In the 1940s, in a town in southern Sonora, Mexico, people begin to disappear. Soon after, some are found dead and mutilated. Vicente Ruíz, the police commissioner, begins the hunt, hoping for a mistake.

Texas, 1848. Families are being forced off their land by the settlers who come to colonize this unpopulated state. A battle for the land and oil ensues.

Mexico 1968: students are the public enemy. Mitch, a wealthy student of Monterrey, hijacks a plane to retrieve Beatrice, who has been kidnapped by the secret police six months ago. When a condemned man's last request brings Flinders into contact with the man's widow, Flinders finds himself falling in love. Meanwhile, a new convict, Mike Sullivan, turns out to be an old friend of Flinders'. They talk over old times, but it's clear that Sullivan has plans to leave the prison before his time is up. When those plans come to pass, Flinders sets out to re-take his old pal.
